Poland’s Sikorski urges EU to limit Russian diplomats’ movement in Schengen area

Sikorski noted that following the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace, Warsaw summoned a Russian diplomat to its Foreign Ministry."There have been quite a few notes of protest. When we summoned the Russian diplomat, the first thing he said was that these were allegedly Ukrainian drones. Then the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that 'we were not targeting Poland.' They should choose one version, because both cannot be true at the same time. But we are already used to this. They should be allowed to operate only in the country where they are accredited and monitored by counterintelligence. We estimate that most Russian diplomats in Europe — more than 2,000 people — are performing tasks beyond their diplomatic status," Sikorski explained.Sikorski on Ukraine's EU accessionOn Ukraine’s and Moldova’s European integration, Sikorski stressed that Poland will "work closely with the Danish EU Presidency to keep their accession a priority."“Only coordinated pressure on Hungary can bring results. We again call on Hungary to lift its veto on the allocation of funds from the European Peace Facility to member states and Ukraine, and to lift its veto on the start of negotiations on the first cluster,” he said.On Friday, September 12, Sikorski arrived in Ukraine for a working visit and met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
