This view was expressed by U.S. diplomat William Taylor, former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi on Espreso TV.“The United States will commit to, has committed to, and will continue to commit to Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which says, "Attack on one is an attack on all." We will defend every inch of NATO territory. All of the Baltic states, all of Poland, every inch of NATO territory. And I am absolutely convinced. President Trump said so at the last NATO summit. He recommitted the United States. If there was any doubt, he reaffirmed that commitment to Article 5. That is going to be very important,” Taylor said.According to him, NATO countries, their armed forces, military committee and planners have been carefully preparing, holding exercises and developing scenarios for potential attacks.“We know what will happen in large attacks, and the Russians know they will lose if they mount a large attack on a NATO country. NATO is much stronger than Russia. But NATO also knows how to deal with smaller probing attacks. We are not going to go to war because of a drone or a missile landing in Latvia or Poland. We are not going to respond with full-fledged war to that. But we know how to respond, and NATO has plans for that response. We are prepared. The United States is prepared. I think all NATO nations are prepared to defend each other if attacked. There should be no doubt that the NATO nations will agree, will support, and will implement Article 5 of the NATO treaty,” the diplomat stressed.Taylor added that Putin would be committing suicide if he attempted to attack a NATO member state — and the Kremlin leader knows it well. “The deterrent works. The strength of NATO is very clear to us, and it is very clear to Putin.”On September 15, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed negotiations on the war in Ukraine were on hold, saying NATO is “de facto at war” with Russia.
