Correspondent Tetiana Vysotska reported this on Espreso TV."First of all, it can be said that the entire day was dedicated to the PURL initiative, an initiative for the purchase of American weapons by European NATO allies. And regarding this initiative, there are already contracts and commitments amounting to 2 billion euros. This constitutes four large PURL packages. And today, the defense ministers were discussing how to expand this initiative," she stated.Vysotska noted that United States Secretary of War Pete Hegseth personally came to Brussels."And from the very beginning, he made it clear that the PURL initiative is a priority for the United States in its communications with European NATO partners. He said that he would be very pleased if it expands and if more and more partners join it. And what is the result? While six states had officially announced their participation in PURL as of this morning, by the end of the day, the number has grown to 17 NATO states that will be joining this initiative. This involves the transfer of American weapons to Ukraine free of charge, which will be purchased by Europeans from the United States. This is the outcome—it's a very significant result," the journalist explained. She added that Hegseth stated this is an incredible signal to the world regarding NATO's unity and its support for Ukraine."And, indeed, for Ukraine, this is an incredible signal because the United States is now effectively lobbying to increase the supply of American weapons to Ukraine, and this includes air defense systems, missiles for air defense, drone systems, interceptors, and so on," Vysotska said. The journalist noted that it was also announced that a fifth package is already being prepared under the PURL mechanism."This will be a Nordic-Baltic package, which will include the Baltic states and also Finland. I can also mention the statement by Denys Shmyhal, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, who also said that the PURL initiative is irreversible because there is no other alternative, given the need for air defense systems, missiles for air defense, and so on. What Ukraine needs right now is only available from the United States, and they supply these weapons to Europe. Therefore, he thanked the NATO allies for their support and also emphasized that this winter will be difficult, and thus it is necessary to strengthen and accelerate the supply of American weapons to Ukraine, particularly anti-drone systems, which Ukraine desperately needs in light of recent Russian attacks," she concluded.
