Ukrainian forces have managed to regain control over 16 sq km of land in the northern part of the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast.

Details: Attending the 32nd meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (the Ramstein format), Syrskyi discussed the challenging situation on the battlefield. He reported that despite significant losses, Russian forces have not abandoned offensive actions, although they have not achieved any substantial operational successes.

He recalled that the Ukrainian military has managed to push the Russians back from Kupiansk and to bring almost 90% of the city's territory back under control.

Quote: "I focused separately on the situation on the Pokrovsk front. Here, the aggressor has been attempting to capture the city of Pokrovsk for more than 17 months. However, Ukrainian units are holding the line and seizing the initiative. As a result of counteroffensive actions, they have regained control over 16 sq km in the northern part of the city. They have also taken back 56 sq km of territory near the settlements of Hryshyne, Kotlyne and Udachne, to the west of Pokrovsk."

Background: On 16 December, the 7th Corps of the Air Assault Forces reported that, as regards Donetsk Oblast, Russian forces are showing the greatest activity on the western outskirts of Pokrovsk and that they are also increasing pressure on the south-eastern districts of the town of Myrnohrad.
