He made this statement in an interview with TF1.Barrot noted that after U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a 30-day ceasefire—a proposal supported by Ukraine—the number of Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities increased fivefold. He explained that the new package of anti-Russian sanctions is being prepared at France’s initiative and in coordination with American senators.“This cannot go on, it must stop. To achieve this, in coordination with American senators, Europe is preparing to introduce, based on French proposals, the strictest sanctions we have imposed in the past three years. These measures will directly deplete the resources that allow Vladimir Putin to continue his war,” the French foreign minister added.According to Barrot, the new package will target not only the energy sector, particularly oil export revenues, but also financial actors both inside Russia and abroad.Specifically, it concerns legal entities and individuals who help the Kremlin circumvent existing sanctions. Barrot said that this is why Putin is able to continue the war despite growing international pressure.“Putin is no longer advancing on the front and is now limited to shelling residential areas with drones and missiles. This leads to numerous civilian casualties. This must stop,” the French minister emphasized. On June 30, the European Union extended its sectoral sanctions against the Russian Federation for another six months.
