Kostyantyn Milevskyi, an officer with the coordination department for foreign military service in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, told hromadske that at the start of the full-scale war, 100–150 foreign volunteers were joining, but now that number is closer to 600."We can say the percentage of foreign nationals in the Armed Forces has gone up. This is partly due to the Foreigners' Recruitment Center now working at full capacity," Milevskyi said.He added that over 8,000 foreigners have voluntarily joined Ukraine's Land Forces. Around 40% of them are from South American countries.Milevskyi said motivations vary, but money plays a role."They’ve said many times that pay in Ukraine’s Armed Forces is much higher than in their home militaries. But these are also people with military backgrounds, and they want to keep doing what they did back home and build on that experience here. And of course, get paid fairly for it," he said.Earlier, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers set up an Interdepartmental Group to improve foreign recruitment into Ukraine’s Defense Forces by updating the existing Interdepartmental Working Group.
