The Latvian armed forces and Defense Minister Andris Sprūds said.“Today a fragment of a drone’s tail was found on the shore of a beach in Varve parish, Ventspils municipality,” the armed forces reported.After a preliminary examination, Sprūds later clarified that the debris belonged to the tail section of a Russian-made Gerbera UAV. It did not contain an explosive charge.Latvian service members continue to cooperate with the state police regarding the incident.For reference: the Gerbera is a cheap, Shahed-like Russian long-range UAV used both as a decoy and (in some versions) as a loitering munition — mass-produced to overwhelm air defenses and, increasingly, fitted with small warheads.Because they’re inexpensive and visually similar to heavier Shahed/Geran loitering munitions, Gerberas are used en masse to tie up and exhaust air defense resources.
