Zelenskyy announced the decision in his evening video address.“I thank the parliament for adopting my draft law on the military ombudsman. This is about real protection of our warriors’ rights. The law has already been signed and published, and today I also signed a decree to launch it — a decree creating the Office of the Military Ombudsman,” Zelenskyy said.He added that further steps will follow to launch the institution and establish systematic work. The regulations for the new Office have already been approved.“It has also been decided that Olha Reshetylova — a person our soldiers know well — will become Ukraine’s first military ombudsman,” Zelenskyy stated. The President’s Office later confirmed the appointment, noting that Reshetylova will handle issues related to military service, review complaints, initiate inspections, and develop solutions. The ombudsman will report annually to both the president and parliament. The Office of the Military Ombudsman will also serve as a permanent advisory body to the president, ensuring civilian oversight of the rights of all defense forces personnel — including active-duty servicemembers, local volunteer units, reservists in training, resistance fighters in occupied territories, and law enforcement officers engaged in combat.
