General of the Army of Ukraine and former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service (2005–2010) Mykola Malomuzh said this on air with Espreso TV.“There is a risk that the process will drag on, as transitioning to negotiation groups always takes time and requires preparing the documents to be signed at the meetings. However, it’s important to stress that a meeting between Trump and Putin would not decide anything legally. A meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy must take place. The Americans can act only as mediators and active advisers — as well as a powerful factor of pressure on Putin. That is realistic. Therefore, we must be prepared for Russia to delay the negotiation process and continue shelling Ukraine’s energy system,” Malomuzh said. The general added that deliveries of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine will likely be postponed, as the issue was “certainly discussed” during the Trump–Putin call.“I also believe that Russia will now demand that the U.S. abandon plans to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine and stop all military assistance. The Tomahawk issue will now be suspended — the U.S. will not transfer these missiles for the time being and will instead use the matter as leverage over Putin,” he added. On Thursday, October 16, U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington.
