He shared this in an interview with Espreso.“I can only comment on how the battles for the Antonivskyi Bridge unfolded,” Mykolaienko said. “In my view, the bridge should have been blown up — then Russian troops would not have crossed to the right bank of the Dnipro, moved toward Odesa or Mykolaiv, or had any such opportunity. We were taken from the military enlistment office to the village of Naddniprianske, located right next to the Antonivskyi Bridge. It was the territorial defense fighters who supported our Armed Forces — the small units that tried to hold back the enemy there,” he explained. The former mayor also commented on the overall situation in the first days of the full-scale invasion.“I’ve already spoken several times about why the enemy approached Kherson so quickly — literally within a few hours. By the way, some media outlets often misinterpret me. I want to make it clear: in my opinion, there were people in the regional leadership who committed treason. They claimed we were ready for defense and reported this even to the president, but in fact did the opposite. Is this Zaluzhnyi’s or Zelenskyy’s fault? I’m convinced it’s not. Come on — I’ve already heard claims that the president himself was supposedly demining Chonhar, or Zaluzhnyi, or even Iryna Vereshchuk. Let’s not spread such nonsense,” Mykolaienko concluded.
